What is a Medical Spa?

Medical spa integrates traditional spa services with alternative medical care, offering therapeutic services in one facility. They provide a wide range of procedures, performed by a professional medical team on staff: doctors, registered nurses, dermatologists, cosmetic surgeons, nutritionists and massage therapists.

Medical Spas utilize lasers and intense pulsed light technology as well as medical microdermabrasions, photofacials, Botox and Restylene injections, medical peels and other medical beauty procedures. You can get also get traditional spa services like facials, massages, and body treatments. A doctor generally has to oversee the procedures performed in a Medical Spa, but this does not mean he is always on the premises.

A treatment program often lasts from two to four weeks. Trip to a medical spa should also be considered as a vacation that includes a full range of entertainment, excursions, and sport activities. Often, tranquil surroundings are favorable to an enjoyable stay. We offer you our short observation of what you might expect during your stay at most European medical spas.
Spas can treat a wide range of health conditions including rheumatism, arthritis, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, osteoporosis, joint pain to cardiovascular disease, psoriasis, eczema and stress. It is recommended to take with you a brief diagnosis of your medical conditions from your regular doctor together with details of any medication that you are taking.
Appraise the success of existing treatments you are receiving - is it time to try an alternative? European spas have a long history of successful treatment programs that are based on more natural approaches, such as the use of mineralized thermal waters and mud rather than drugs and surgery.
Plan your trip based on your health status and vacation goals. Various packages are available which include treatment programs or you can plan "Hotel Only" reservation.
Shortly after arrival and check-in at the spa you will be given a medical consultation with a specialist doctor who will prescribe the recommended treatment procedures. This may be a combination of healing spa treatments and traditional medicine depending on your health conditions. In a typical European medical spa, you would expect to find highly qualified doctors, supported by an extensive team of specialist therapists, each highly trained in their particular field.
You can plan your leisure activities at the resort in conjunction with your therapy program. This could include visits to the theater, concerts, tours, and sport activities; intermixed with therapist appointments to take the waters or mud baths, massages, etc., together with other prescribed procedures.
On the day of your departure in most medical spas, the specialist spa physician, who has been monitoring your progress, will give guidance on the continued treatment and life style of your condition when you return home.
Often guests choose to return to the spa every six months or year to further the treatment of their health condition, particularly if it is a chronic disease.
Remember - a trip to a spa provides an opportunity for relaxation, entertainment as well as a significant health improvement or possible cure. In many parts of the world such spas make a major contribution to a healthy lifestyle with practices and procedures that are accepted and recognized by the medical associations.
